For every day that I am at Mobile World Congress 2010, I will write a blog post on this page about what has been happening, and what the whole experience is like from a young person's perspective.
What an amazing first day this has been at the congress for me! This is 'my kind of world', where so many others are interested in the same sorts of things I am interested in. I will not go into detail about the fantastic new innovations I have seen at the event, as multiple news sites will already be covering that. I will talk more about my personal experience today, and what it is like to be the only young person attending Mobile World Congress 2010.
Being the only person at the congress under 14 is, of course, quite odd, since I am in an environment where there are thousands of adults... and then me. Although this is the case, I do not feel at all very intimidated. Everyone appears to have treated me with the same respect that they do other adults, and sometimes even more when taking into account my age.
The congress has brought me wonderful new opportunities, such as being able to appear on TV on CNN news, which will hopefully further promote my business. I was also thrilled to meet Mark Spencer, the main presenter of the BBC show known as Click.
Already on the first day I have been inspired to try something new - create BlackBerry apps, which would be my second development platform, after the iPhone. Now that I know I can create basic widgets for the Blackberry with little coding knowledge, I am almost certain to start developing for the Blackberry within the next few months.
Of course, there were alsothe major events on today that I enjoyed, such as the Global Mobile Awards Ceremony with Stephen Fry, and Live Keynote presented by Google's CEO. These, along with App Planet and a few halls full of new innovations and products, truly made this a spectacular day.
Thank you very much to Liam Yardy and the team, for inviting me along to the greatest technology event I have ever been to!
Yet another fantastic day at MWC 2010! The beginning of the day started out as being very relaxing. I simply strolled about many more thrilling exhibits, and yet again visited the barnd new App Planet (probably the best thing about the congress). I was fantastically able to try out the brand new Windows Phone 7 Series software. This was mostly a great experience not because of the software itself, but the honour I felt, knowing that I was one of very few adults (and very, very, very few children) to actually try it before its release in months to come.
Another highlight would have to have been looking at a preview of Adobe Flash CS5, the main feature of which is the ability to create iPhone apps purely out of Flash. Although I personally have very little experience in using Flash, it is wonderful to know that, should I need, there will soon be another way in which iPhone apps can be created.
I was also rather interested in the Mobile Cloud on the Move - The Perfect Storm? session, especially with the introduction to a tiny netbook, which accesses all your applications and files via the Internet.
I could continue to talk about the other brilliant concepts and products I have seen today at the congress today, but that would take hours! I believe I have covered pretty much all of my personal highlights of today, and so will say, "I'm 'appy".
Today was a more quite day at the congress. There weren't many presentations, and by today I had seen most exhibition stands, though there were a few of interest that I had not seen before. Therefore, I will instead sum up my personal experiences at the congress.
First of all, being invited to Mobile World Congress 2010 is a great honour, so thanks once again to all the team who worked so hard to give me exclusive permission to enter. Without them, I never would have had these joyful and informative three days.
Not only was the entire event an exciting place to be, but it also inspired me quite a lot. I have now been inspired to start creating BlackBery apps in the future, expand my work to create a real business, and work more with other people in the industry who could be of tremendous value.
I was also very lucky to meet some wonderful people and their businesses, and was able to 'pick up' some their business cards along the way. So, should I ever need help with something, I know I have a stack of information on companies that may be able to help.
To finish off, I would like to make a sugestion to those who work at GSMA. I was very lucky to have been spotted in the Evening Standard, and be invited along to MWC 2010. However, I am certain that there are many more around the world like me, who are so deeply in love with technology and all it can do. It would be brilliant if, rather than simpy making exceptions for certain under 16s to visit, under 16s are in fact encouraged to come along. Also, if allowing under 16s to visit for free is too costly, it would be wonderful it there could be a cheaper pass for them, so they can have the same wonderous experience that I was fortunate enough to have.
I will now close positively in saying that MWC 2010 was an amazing, fantastical, ,glorious, magnificent, wonderous, brilliant, stunning and thrilling place to be during the half term. THANK YOU GSMA!!!
